Twenty-seven years ago, we fulfilled the dream of a half-century of covetous patriotism in Latvia – we regained freedom and national independence. The vote of the Supreme Soviet of Latvia on August 21, 1991, led to a popular struggle for his country. At that time, it seemed to many that the main thing was accomplished: we have our own country again. Looking back over the past years after the historic vote of the Supreme Council, we must say more – it was just a new beginning and a new opportunity for us all to form our own Latvia. The state will never be finished. Every day we have the opportunity to work honestly in Latvia, to realize our dreams here and to create the ideal Latvia to be proud of. We must not stop and make up for what has already been achieved, when it is possible to do even more. Indeed, your own state and independence are not self-evident things. Every minute, we must be ready to enter our country and our values - democracy, the rule of law and human rights. We can not stand aside and hope that others will form and defend Latvia on a daily basis. Only we can create a strong Latvia, which will speak Latvian for many decades and hundreds of sounds, and the red-and-white flag will flutter over our heads. Let us revive the independence celebration and lecture with our country and our success! Let us use the hundredth anniversary of Latvia's statehood as another new beginning and opportunity for new dreams and great works for our Latvia!
