Foreign Minister Maas to 80. Anniversary of the Munich agreement

MIL OSI Translation. Region: Germany / Germany –

Source: Auswärtiges AmtThe Munich Agreement 80 years ago is one of the darkest chapters of German-Czech relations. It paved the way for the dismemberment and ultimately the smashing of Czechoslovakia. What was initially celebrated as a success in securing peace in parts of Europe was only the prelude to the unleashing of a large-scale conflagration, which led the continent and the world into catastrophe. Today, the European Union stands for the opposite of the spirit of Munich. Respect for all member states and for all citizens forms the basis of the European Union. Instead of the right of the strongest, the strength of law applies. Together we want to stand up for these values and principles. Czechs and Germans are now working together as friends and partners in the EU and NATO as closely as ever before.
