28 September 2018 in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) at the meeting of the Council of heads of state of the Commonwealth of Independent States signed the Convention of the Commonwealth of Independent States on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes (hereinafter — the Convention).At the highest level the Convention was signed by the Russian Federation, the Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Uzbekistan.The Convention is open to accession by any state member of the CIS.The Convention is a framework intergovernmental agreement and prepared on the initiative of the Interparliamentary Assembly of States — participants of CIS in order to improve the regulatory framework and foster cooperative activities of the States — participants CIS in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.The signing of the Convention will unite the intellectual, scientific and production resources of the interested States — participants of the CIS in the field of basic and applied space research, creation and sharing of national systems of Earth remote sensing, space communications and broadcasting, development and application of satellite navigation technologies GLONASS and other satellite navigation systems, and using results of space activities in various sectors of the economy.
