Historic Ascenso coach joins River

Coach Pablo Vico has returned to the soccer field, not as a team leader, but as an advisor to the coaches of River’s formative schools. After 15 uninterrupted seasons leading Brown de Adrogue and a brief stint at Agropecuario, which ended sooner than expected, the record-holding Argentine soccer coach accepted the proposal from the «Millonario» team.

Vico, also known as «Don Ramon», was surprised by the call: «They couldn’t believe I said yes,» he confessed in an interview with Super Deportivo Radio. His schedule is divided between morning and afternoon. Every two days, he conducts soccer clinics at the municipal site of Burzaco for both male and female teams and later crosses General Paz to settle at River Camp and observe the work of over 800 children.

«I asked not to be in charge of the children, but I love performing this function with the coaches. It’s a nice way to give back a bit of what I learned,» said the historic coach. Despite being part of River’s project, Vico admitted that he misses being in charge of a team: «I need to feel the adrenaline of a substitute bench again.» Also, to return to Ascenso, he is waiting for a «serious and ambitious project.»

«Some may consider me a ruined old man, with a lack of memory, but I am whole and conscious,» expressed the coach.
