With the report "Division of tasks between the Confederation and the cantons", the Federal Council fulfills Parliament's task of analyzing the joint tasks of the Confederation and the cantons. The report concludes that full or partial unbundling could be undertaken in a number of areas of activity funded today jointly by the Confederation and the cantons. The Federal Council approved the report at its meeting on 28 September 2018 and commissioned the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) to hold talks with the cantons on whether to tackle a project of this nature.
