The President of the Republic spoke today by phone with Abdullah II, King of Jordan.
The President of the Republic has expressed to the King his condolences following the two terrorist attacks committed in Fuhais and Salt in Jordan on 10 and 11 August, with six deaths among the security forces in jordan. It has exchanged with the King of Jordan on the fight against terrorism, in particular against Daech in the framework of the international coalition. On this subject, the President of the Republic announced that a French contribution to the maintenance of security along the border in the syrian-jordanian. The cooperation between the two countries is being reinforced in the area of security and defence.
The interview also focused on regional issues, particularly Syria. The situation in the South of the country and in the governorate of Idlib has been addressed, as well as the issue of the return of the refugees, who must be accompanied by the international community in conditions that are safe and fair. They reiterated their agreement on the importance of a political solution to the conflict, under the aegis of the UN.
They also discussed the peace process in the middle East, stressing the need to relaunch the dialogue between the parties and to involve the arab States in any attempt of regulation, and have shared their concerns about the situation in Gaza.
The President of the Republic invited the King to visit France in the coming months.
