The National Security Ministry has accused HLB Pharma, owned by businessman Ariel Garcia Furfaro, of falsifying important documentation to import the opioid fentanyl. According to Argentinian News Agency, Furfaro was reported for document forgery during the renewal process for fentanyl import authorization in the National Registry of Chemical Precursors. The owner of the lab allegedly submitted a fake municipal authorization certificate from San Isidro. The complaint, filed by Walter Klix, the national director of Chemical Precursors of the Security Ministry, is now under the jurisdiction of federal judge Sebastian Casanello. Federal prosecutor Guillermo Marijuan will determine if Furfaro is responsible for this forgery. Regarding the deaths, it was indicated that another 20 fatalities could be added to the list, and authorities may have penetrated the unreported or undetected figures. Although genetic confirmation is pending, if these deaths are detected, the death toll would be even higher than expected. In addition, it was confirmed in the province of Cordoba that a three-month-old baby was infected with contaminated fentanyl. The baby, named Giovanni, had complications at birth, which led doctors to administer fentanyl as a sedative. It was verified that this opioid belongs to the adulterated batches. The baby’s health worsened and after an analysis, it was found that he had contracted the Klebsiella bacteria, which is found in the contaminated fentanyl.
