Canada welcomes the adoption by the Council of human rights of the United Nations of the resolution on the situation of human rights in Myanmar

World affairs Canada has today made the following statement on the adoption by the Council of human rights of the United Nations resolution about human rights of muslim rohingya and other minorities in Myanmar :
“Canada welcomes the adoption by the Council of human rights of the UN of a resolution – co-sponsored by the Canada and 104 other States – that will create an independent mechanism for the collection and preservation of evidence related to the situation of human rights in Myanmar.
“We ask that this new entity be established without delay, in order to prepare files to facilitate and expedite the conduct of criminal proceedings, fair and independent in the case of abuse of human rights committed against the Rohingya and other minorities in Myanmar.
“Canada also welcomes the extension of the mandate of the international mission of inquiry independent of the United Nations on burma / Myanmar and urges the security Council of the UN to accept a presentation on the findings critical to this mission.
“The resolution of the Council of human rights of the UN is part of the sustained efforts that we are implementing in collaboration with our international partners, to ensure that the perpetrators of this genocide have to answer for their acts. The Canada request again to the security Council of the United Nations to refer the situation in Myanmar to the international criminal Court.
“Canada will continue to work closely with the international community to protect all people against the most serious crimes under international law, including genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. “
