The honourable Seamus O’regan, minister of Veterans affairs, on behalf of the honourable Catherine McKenna, minister of the Environment and climate Change, announced today the official opening of the satellite office of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Atlantic regional office, canadian environmental assessment Agency (the Agency), located in St. John s.
The opening of the satellite office of Newfoundland and Labrador will allow for an increased presence of the Agency in the region to achieve federal environmental assessments in the offshore area of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The satellite office will lead the process of regional evaluation of the exploratory drilling for offshore oil and gas to the east of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Agency and the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador offshore petroleum board (OCTNLHE) invites the public and aboriginal groups to provide comments on the draft version of the agreement relating to the regional assessment until October 12, 2018.
The office will provide support to federal environmental assessments already underway, including the exploitation project of a Bay of the North, as well as to projects that will be proposed in the offshore area of Newfoundland and Labrador, which promotes the growth of our economy while protecting our environment.
