Manaus, 09/27/2018 – The Management and Operational Center of the Amazon Protection System (Censipam), an organ linked to the Ministry of Defense (MD), held, at the auditorium of the Forest of Science, at the National Institute of Amazon Research INPA), the 3rd Integrated Monitoring Seminar with Orbital Radar 2018. The objective of the event was to disseminate the results of the Amazon SAR Project and discuss the scientific production on remote sensing in Brazil and worldwide. Throughout the day, in addition to the oral presentations, especially with the participation of speakers from institutions, universities and foreign companies, there was also an exhibition of banners for dissemination of works developed on the theme.Evento brought together Institutions, Universities and CompaniesThe general director of Censipam , Rogério Guedes Soares, highlighted the importance of receiving guests from other countries, such as the United States Geospatial Information Agency (NGA), the Italian Space Agency, the German Space Center (DLR), France's Cesbio, Tokio Denki University of Japan, and the Latin American Specialist Society (Selper) of Argentina. They also sent representatives to the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), the State University of Pará (Uepa), the Petrobras Research Institute, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (Embrapa), the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) (IBAMA), and the Chico Mendes Institute of Biodiversity (ICMBio), as well as non-governmental institutions such as Imazon and Isa, which presented new experiences in the application of synthetic aperture radar. The event was attended by international startups such as Sarmap and Capella Space, which develop a new generation of constellations of smaller and cheaper satellites. "An event like this symposium, Brazil with countries of greater technological development and gives the opportunity for Brazilian researchers to present their work and show the Brazilian capacity for the international scientific community, "said the director. On Thursday (27), lectures were given by national and international institutions, highlighting presentations by experts from the United States, Switzerland and Argentina . Censipam's general operations coordinator, Edileuza de Melo Nogueira, explained that the seminar was divided into two parts, one oral and one composed of poster presentations. The oral presentations were made by speakers from institutions, universities and companies related to the area of sensing. The presentation on posters highlighted, through an exhibition composed of banners, the demonstration of the four works enrolled and selected for the event, in addition to other works of Research Projects linked to Censipam with CNPq. Detection of Change was the theme of Lieutenant Douglas Damião de Carvalho Honório, of the Institute of Advanced Studies, of the Technological Center of Aeronautics (CTA), had his work selected for exhibition. The official explained that his research is part of the theme "detection of changes" and seeks to contribute to the identification of surface, whose data can be used in the search and rescue, in the identification of ships. Honório was gratified to have his work selected and to represent the Institute at the event.
"The military researcher goes beyond what is ready and can support the decision with the production of knowledge," emphasized Lieutenant Honorio.
At the end of the event, Rogério Guedes said he was satisfied with the result achieved by the seminar. He highlighted the participation of the team of Censipam, Brasília and other subordinate centers, and the engagement of the scientific community linked to the theme. The director stressed that the seminar, as well as the entire Amazon SAR project, is developed with resources donated by the Amazon Fund , which is managed by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development, the Bndes.Ao will be held five seminars. Two have already been held in Brasilia and in Manaus. And two more are planned, one in Porto Velho in 2019 and another in Belém in 2020.
