The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs lends more than forty documents of all kinds from the Diplomatic Archives. The visitor will discover at the heart of the various sections, the ratifications of the Versailles, Saint Germain, Neuilly, Trianon, documents bearing major stakes, especially for the States resulting from the disintegration of Central Empires. For the Middle East, a new geography is emerging over the fighting and negotiations, from the Franco-British Sykes-Picot agreements, to the Treaty of Lausanne, whose original and beautiful instrument of ratification sealed to the arms of Turkey’s Mustafa Kemal are, for the first time, presented to the public. The geographers engineers of the departmental Archives Directorate have also designed about fifty historical maps for the scenography and catalog. This realization highlights a little known part of the activities of the direction of the Archives, the production of modern or historical maps, as diplomacy tools. An international symposium will be held on December 4 and 5, 2018 in collaboration with the museum under the title: “From Paris to Lausanne: negotiations and peace treaties, 1918-1923 – unpublished sources, heritage in questions”. He will return to the hazards of conservation as the great wealth of sources (peace conference, unknown private archives ….) , exceptional heritage, which is also weakened by a turbulent history. For journalists: A press visit is organized by the Army Museum Wednesday, October 3 from 10am to 1pm.
