One month after the 16th committee of the signatories of the Nouméa Agreement, which resulted in an important political agreement between the partners concerning the electoral rolls of the future consultation, the Prime Minister Édouard Philippe will carry out from December 2nd to 6th his first traveling to New Caledonia.
THE context of displacement
With the referendum of self-determination, the State honors its word by allowing the Caledonian citizens to decide next year the nature of the link of their territory with France. This is the historic engagement of the State, it is also the commitment of the New Caledonian political forces who signed the Nouméa Agreement in 1998. The objective of the trip of Édouard Philippe is to continue the dialogue initiated since last May with the political forces, and in particular to take stock of the work that has been undertaken, since the Committee of Signatories of 2 November, to prepare the consultation. The Government's priority is that the consultation takes place under indisputable and transparent conditions. But it is also about preparing, already, the post-consultation. The challenge is to build an environment that allows us to continue to build a common future, based on the achievements of the last thirty years.

New Caledonia: an archipelago of the South Pacific
Located 19,000 km from the metropolis and 2,000 km from Australia, New Caledonia is with Polynesia and the Wallis and Futuna Islands, one of the three French territories located in the South Pacific. This archipelago with an area of 19 000 km² is composed of a main island, the Grande Terre, the Loyalty Islands – Maré, Ouvéa, Lifou and Tiga – to the east, the Isle of Pines to the south, islands Belep to the north and a multitude of uninhabited islands and islets. Prime Minister Philippe traveled to the South Pacific archipelago from December 2nd to 7th. On this occasion, he went to meet the people during his visit to the market of the Moselle Bay in Nouméa.
In Noumea, he also met institutional investors. In particular, he had discussions with members of the Government of New Caledonia, the President of the South Province Assembly, the elected officials of the Nouméa Town Hall and the customary Senate.

Upon his arrival in New Caledonia on Saturday, December 2, military honors were paid to the Prime Minister on Bir-Hakeim Square. During his stay, the Prime Minister participated in several ceremonies. In particular, he visited the Loyalty Islands Province and Lifou Island on Sunday, December 3, where he was welcomed to the great Wetr chieftaincy by traditional dances.
The trip to New Caledonia was also an opportunity to visit the facilities of the archipelago including the photovoltaic station, the mining center SLN and KNS nickel plant.

The Prime minister has visited the Northern Province where it is collected on the tomb of Jean-Marie Tjiabou as well as on the tombs of the victims of Wan yaat. It has also been welcomed by the president of the Northern Province and the mayor of Koné. Projects in customary lands were discussed during the visit of the area Voh-Koné-Pouembout and out of the Tribe of Baco. After having met with the young volunteers of the military service adapted (SMA), the Prime minister went to Tiébaghi, to visit one of the main mining centres and Vavouto on the site of the factory KNS, a producer of nickel.
