On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, President Raimonds Vējonis met with the leaders of the World Federation of Free Latvians in Riga Castle. During the meeting, the President thanked for the work of the PBLA and its constituent bodies in defending and representing the interests of Latvia abroad by strengthening our country. Ramond Vējonis noted that PBLA is doing important work in order to unite and unite its compatriots abroad and help to preserve their nationality by being far away. from his homeland. The PBLA informed the President about the measures taken to promote the participation of Latvian citizens living abroad in the 13th Saeima elections and indicated that the compatriots are aware of the significance of this election in the further development of Latvia. Therefore, it is expected that the activity of emigration in Saeima elections could be higher than before. At the same time, the PBLA pointed out that it is essential that the work on drafting the Diaspora Law be completed. The State President and PBLA representatives agreed that in today's geopolitical situation, both domestic and foreign, should actively work in order to strengthen our national security.PBLA includes the American-Latvian Association, the Association of South American and Caribbean Latvians, the European Association of Latvians, the Russian Latvian Congress, the Latvian Association in Australia and New Zealand, and the Latvian National Association in Canada. The main objective of the PBLA is to unite its compatriots in the task of defending the freedom and security of Latvia and to promote the prosperity of the Latvian people in an independent, democratic, culturally and economically developed Latvia, to promote the maintenance of an organized, influential and vital Latvian community abroad and to promote the unity of the Latvian people in the world.
